Wanted Former Governor Timipre Sylva Quits APC From Hiding and Attacks Tinubu Government

Timipre Sylva has left Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress while authorities seek him over allegations tied to a failed coup plot and a separate $14.86 million fraud case. His whereabouts have not been publicly disclosed, and he has denied involvement in any attempt to overthrow President Bola Tinubu.

Having consulted widely with my family, associates, colleagues and sympathisers, I wish to formally tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), with immediate effect.

Sylva, a former governor of Bayelsa State and former minister of state for petroleum resources, announced his resignation in a letter electronically delivered to the APC chairman of Ward 4 in Brass Local Government Area. The move adds a political dimension to his confrontation with the federal government.

A founding member of the APC, Sylva said he had helped build the party but could no longer remain in an organisation whose leaders allegedly believed that “all is fair in politics.” He described the loss of the party’s original ideals as “deeply saddening” and said basic standards of decency and morality ruled out such an approach.

I cannot, in all good conscience, continue to belong to a Party whose leaders believe that ‘all is fair in politics,’ and have consistently demonstrated that belief in practice.

Sylva also criticised the APC-led government, saying it had disappointed the vast majority of Nigerians. He said he could see neither “a credible attempt nor any possibility of a revamp,” and described the party as a “floundering ship” whose fate appeared sealed by its “irredeemable load of iniquities.” He said he expected Nigerians to use the coming election to change the country’s political direction.
