Washington D.C.: Trump blames vandalism for Reflecting Pool problems

The Reflecting Pool at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. is currently displaying a green hue instead of its intended blue, a change attributed to algae growth. This development follows costly renovations, during which the new paint on the pool's floor has reportedly begun to peel.

President Donald Trump blamed the issues on vandalism, claiming the renovations were successful until "desecrating vandalism" occurred. He alleged that unknown individuals inflicted a 75-meter cut on the pool and poured "corrosive and destructive chemicals" into it, necessitating significant water drainage for repairs.

The pool's condition has been a subject of media attention, especially with upcoming celebrations for the U.S.'s 250th anniversary. Trump had promised the pool would shine "American flag blue" after the repainting. However, the water turned a swampy green, with algae blooms reportedly worse than before the work.

Reports indicate the renovation cost around $14 million, significantly more than Trump's initial estimate. Amidst the controversy, former Olympian David Hearn was arrested, accused of damaging the pool. Hearn denies the allegations, stating he stopped to observe the renovations and did not damage or peel anything.
