Washington Wildfires Force 60,000 Evacuations, Destroy Hundreds of Buildings

Wildfires are forcing mass evacuations in Washington state, with around 60,000 residents near Spokane receiving orders to leave their homes. Local officials reported late Sunday that the blazes have already ravaged 600 structures, encompassing both residences and commercial properties.

The fires, which comprise three separate incidents in the Spokane area, are threatening further evacuation zones, according to Spokane Fire Chief Tom Williams. As of Sunday, the fires had consumed 2,180 hectares, as documented by the federal crisis management team. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported thus far.

Across Washington state, over 250,000 hectares are currently ablaze. In response to the escalating crisis, Governor Jay Inslee has declared a statewide state of emergency. He has also been in contact with U.S. President Donald Trump, formally requesting aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to combat the widespread fires.
