WATCH: IDF destroys 11km. of Hamas terror tunnels under Gaza's Beit Hanun

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Tuesday that troops have located and dismantled approximately 11 kilometers of underground tunnel routes in the Beit Hanun area, east of Gaza's Yellow Line. These operations have taken place over the last several months. The military stated that during combat in the area, IDF troops encountered terrorists and responded swiftly and efficiently, noting that soldiers fell in defense of communities in the western Negev and in the effort to defeat the Beit Hanun Battalion.

Beit Hanun has historically served as a Hamas stronghold, where the terror group operated through an underground network embedded within the civilian population. These tunnels were constructed beneath homes, public institutions, and roads. During the recent operations, IDF troops also dismantled above-ground terror infrastructure and eliminated several Hamas operatives. Additionally, soldiers destroyed another three kilometers of underground tunnels through direct combat.

This action follows an earlier revelation in November 2025, when the IDF exposed the full extent of the underground terror network beneath Beit Hanun. At that time, the military described the city as a central Hamas terror stronghold, with an extensive tunnel network built beneath civilian homes. Above ground, thousands of structures reportedly served as weapons storage facilities, firing positions, and command centers for terrorists. Armed operatives were also reported to have operated from within an elementary school, with a tunnel shaft leading underground from beneath it.

By July, the IDF reported that the last traces of Hamas forces in Beit Hanun had been killed or surrendered. The city had undergone multiple rounds of fighting dating back to October 2023, resulting in the destruction of almost the entire urban area.
