Water Cuts Hit Quito Sectors Due to Low Levels and Pipe Rupture

Quito faced water service disruptions in various neighborhoods starting Friday afternoon, August 14, 2026. The interruptions are attributed to critically low water levels in key supply tanks and a significant rupture in a main distribution pipe, according to the Metropolitan Public Company of Potable Water and Sanitation (Epmaps).

In the Amaguaña and Conocoto parishes, the Providencia water tank is experiencing low levels, affecting service to areas including La Providencia, Yanahuaico, La Balbina, Cuendina, Chillo Jijón, Chaupitena, Santa Isabel, Tena, Miranda, San Francisco, and San José de la Salle. Epmaps is actively working to replenish the tank's water levels.

Similarly, in the Cumbayá parish, the Santa Lucía and Jacaranda tanks are also operating with low water volumes. This has led to service cuts in sectors such as San Roque, San Marcos, and the town center. Epmaps expects a gradual restoration of service in these areas throughout Friday evening.

Adding to the challenges, a rupture in a main network pipe at the intersection of Joaquín Gallegos and José Falconí streets in Cumbayá has further disrupted supply. Teams are on-site repairing the damaged pipeline, impacting service in the immediate vicinity. Epmaps has stated that service restoration across all affected areas will be gradual, with full normalization anticipated between Friday night and the early morning of Saturday, August 15, 2026.
