Way Out West Launches Own Film Award, Honors "Doktor Glas" Duo

The Way Out West music festival in Gothenburg is introducing the Flamingo film award, recognizing excellence in cinema alongside its music programming. This new award, presented in six categories, aims to celebrate filmmakers and actors, reflecting the festival's long-standing commitment to film.

The inaugural Rising Flamingo award, intended for emerging talent, will be given to Christian Fandango Sundgren and Isac Calmroth. The duo recently starred together in the film "Doktor Glas." They will be honored guests at this year's festival.

Svante Tidholm, head of Way Out West's film section, stated that the festival has always been a meeting point for audiences passionate about both film and music. He explained that the film award stems from this environment where artists, musicians, and filmmakers share stages and audiences.

In addition to the Rising Flamingo, five other awards will be presented during the festival, which runs from August 13 to 15. These include prizes for best feature film, best musical performance in film or TV, best music documentary, and best short film. The jury comprises Alba August, Amy Deasismont, Göran Hugo Olsson, Lisa Nordström, and Josef Kullengård. The sixth award will be chosen by the festival audience through the event's app.
