We don’t know exact cause of my father’s death - Rabe Abubakar’s son

The family of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who recently died in the hands of bandits, has accepted his death as the will of God, viewing him as a martyr. His son, Isyaka Rabe-Abubakar, shared that while the circumstances of his father's demise are painful, they believe he died a martyr and will be granted a place in paradise.

We believe what happened to our father was destined by Allah. We believe he died a martyr and will be granted a place in Paradise.

The retired general was abducted along with his wife on May 30 while traveling on the Matazu-Katsina Road. The Katsina State Government announced his death on Saturday, but his wife remains in captivity. Isyaka Rabe-Abubakar described his late father as a mentor, deeply religious, and humble, who lived peacefully and dedicated his life to guiding others and showing kindness. His simplicity, he noted, often concealed his achievements and military position.

If you did not know him, when you saw him, you will never know who he was. He was humble, peaceful and always willing to guide others.

The family is drawing strength from their faith during this difficult period. Regarding the circumstances surrounding the release of his father's body, Isyaka stated that only the government could provide details. The family remains uncertain about the exact cause of the retired general's death, with various speculations circulating, including snakebite and tetanus. "Only Allah knows the exact cause of his death," the son said.

Isyaka Rabe-Abubakar condemned the perpetrators of the abduction and his father's death, declaring, "We will not forgive those behind this act." He also disclosed that his mother is still in the abductors' custody and prayed for her safe return, calling for continued efforts to secure her freedom. The late retired general previously served as Director of Defence Information and was remembered by his family as a disciplined officer committed to peaceful living.
