Wealthy businessman offered HK$30 million for surrogate pregnancy, Hong Kong actress says

Hong Kong actress Yumi says the most unbelievable encounter in her 24-year career came at a dinner, when a foreign businessman offered her HK$30 million to give birth to his child.

The 38-year-old actress, who has dated several wealthy heirs and gained the nickname “rich-kid killer,” recently discussed unusual experiences from her years in show business. She said the businessman made the proposal publicly during the dinner and offered the equivalent of about NT$120 million.

Yumi said she felt shocked and offended by the request. Despite the size of the offer, she rejected it immediately and stressed that she had principles and would not accept such an arrangement for money. She later made clear that she did not want to continue discussing the subject.

Yumi said she rejected those offers as well because she considered the nature of the work questionable and disliked the culture of social entertaining. She said the entertainment industry contains many things outsiders could not imagine, but she had continued to hold to her boundaries rather than make decisions that violated her principles for money.
