Weather forecast for Wednesday, May 20, across the country: will the cold continue?

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued its forecast for Wednesday, May 20, indicating a day of variable cloudiness and cool temperatures across Argentina. Residents in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) can expect a morning clear sky transitioning to partly cloudy by midday and mostly cloudy in the afternoon and evening, with winds reaching up to 22 kilometers per hour. Importantly, the SMN has stated that no adverse weather alerts are in effect for any province, suggesting a general lack of severe conditions.

Specialized site Meteored anticipates that cold air will continue to dominate much of the country due to an advancing cold front reinforcing the existing polar air mass. This phenomenon is expected to impact Patagonia on Tuesday and Wednesday before moving towards the central and northern regions of Argentina. The province of Buenos Aires will also experience increased cloudiness and instability, particularly along the Atlantic coast, with a possibility of isolated showers in the early morning hours. In contrast, northwestern provinces like Tucumán, Salta, and Jujuy might see the only exception, with low cloudiness and a chance of drizzle.

For Patagonia, particularly Tierra del Fuego, very low temperatures and persistent precipitation are forecast, with accumulated rainfall between 10 and 15 millimeters in the southern part of the province. This reinforces the widespread impact of the cold front. However, a shift in atmospheric circulation is anticipated from Sunday onwards. The displacement of a high-pressure system towards the Atlantic is expected to allow for a return of north-northeasterly winds, gradually raising temperatures across a significant portion of the country. In Buenos Aires city, the minimum temperature is forecast at 7°C with a maximum of 15°C, with similar conditions expected for Thursday, though with a slight temperature decrease.
