Weather: One Last Summer Day? A Shift Begins in the North on Tuesday

Northern Germany is heading into a final late-summer day before the weather turns noticeably cooler and more unsettled. On Monday, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania can expect partly sunny to cloudy skies, with local temperatures reaching 26 degrees, according to the German Weather Service.

Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein will remain warm and mostly dry, although isolated showers are possible. Temperatures will range from 22 degrees on the islands to 26 degrees in Hamburg and the Duchy of Lauenburg. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, mostly dry conditions will bring highs of 21 to 26 degrees.

The change will begin overnight into Tuesday, when clouds increase, particularly in the west. Schleswig-Holstein could see brief showers in the second half of the night. On Tuesday, rain and showers will move into Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg from the northwest, while temperatures there fall to 19 to 21 degrees. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will also see periods of showers under increasingly cloudy skies, with highs between 19 and 23 degrees. Winds will strengthen from the southwest, especially along the coast.

The unsettled pattern will continue on Wednesday. Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein could experience heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms, although longer sunny breaks are also possible. Temperatures will hover around 18 degrees. The North Sea may see stormy conditions with strong, gusty winds. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will remain changeable, with isolated coastal showers and alternating clouds and sunshine, and highs of 18 to 21 degrees.
