Weather Outlook: Spring Break: Where Rain and Thunderstorms Threaten

Spring in Baden-Württemberg is proving to be a capricious affair, with the weekend offering a weather cocktail that demands flexibility from residents. Instead of the anticipated warmth, the region is bracing for a dynamic mix of sunshine, heavy showers, and potentially fierce thunderstorms, according to forecasts from the German Weather Service (DWD).

Spring is taking a break in Baden-Württemberg towards the end of the weekend – and instead bringing a weather mix that could make excursion plans a test of patience.

The arrival of a cold front is set to dominate Saturday's weather. While the northwestern parts of the state might see some initial thunderstorms giving way to brighter spells, the eastern and southeastern areas, including the southern Black Forest and the Alb region, are likely to experience more intense weather. The DWD meteorologist indicated that areas south of the Danube could face prolonged wet conditions, with rainfall potentially reaching 20 liters per square meter per hour, accompanied by hail and strong, gusty winds.

Between sunny spells, heavy showers, and partly severe thunderstorms, almost everything is included today, as the forecasts from the German Weather Service (DWD) show.

This turbulent weather system is also bringing a noticeable drop in temperature. Highs are expected to range between a modest 13 and 19 degrees Celsius. A moderate to strong northwest wind will accompany the cooler air, with the potential for winds to become stormy, particularly during thunderstorm activity. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather warnings as the situation develops.

Already in the morning, individual thunderstorm showers move through in the northwest, before it becomes increasingly friendly there.

Looking ahead to Monday, the outlook suggests a predominantly cloudy day with occasional light rain and brief clearings. Temperatures are predicted to be cooler still, reaching a maximum of 11 degrees Celsius on the Alb and up to 17 degrees Celsius along the Rhine. The night leading into Tuesday is expected to be particularly crisp, with temperatures dropping to between five and one degree Celsius, possibly bringing frost.

The weather situation is different in the rest of Baden-Württemberg: In the east and southeast, as well as over the southern Black Forest and the Alb, heavy thunderstorms are expected to develop locally from midday onwards.
