Wes Streeting, who previously served as Britain's Health Secretary, has been appointed the new Defense Secretary by Prime Minister Andy Burnham. Streeting, 43, expressed his honor in taking the Defense portfolio, stating on his X account, "we will ensure our armed forces have the necessary resources and we will stand firmly alongside our international allies, particularly Ukraine." His focus on resources for the military echoes the concerns that led to the resignation of the previous Defense Secretary, John Healey, in early June. Healey's departure, which accelerated Keir Starmer's downfall, was attributed to the Starmer government's perceived inability to adequately fund the military budget.
