What is known about the Miravalle crime in Quito

An armed assault in Quito's Miravalle neighborhood on Thursday evening resulted in the death of a man driving a gray SUV. The attack occurred around 6:43 PM on Oswaldo Guayasamín Avenue, a route connecting the capital with the Cumbayá valley.

According to initial investigations, assailants on a motorcycle reportedly followed the victim before opening fire. The man had called his wife shortly before the attack, informing her he was being followed and sharing his real-time location. The victim was identified as a financial manager at a private university in Quito. The SUV sustained over six ballistic impacts, primarily on the driver's side window, before crashing into a wall and a pole.

The Fiscalía has launched an investigation, with preliminary hypotheses including the possibility that the attackers profiled the victim beforehand, tracking his movements and routines. Authorities are also examining his financial accounts for any signs of extortion, though no prior police report was filed regarding such a threat. The National Police have deployed eight teams to gather evidence, analyze security camera footage to reconstruct the event, and interview the victim's family and associates.
