President Javier Milei used a 15-minute national address to set out a tougher policy on Argentina’s claim to sovereignty over the Falkland Islands.

Speaking from the White Room of the Casa Rosada on Thursday night, September 3, Milei reviewed the history of the islands’ occupation and highlighted what he described as a new situation involving the territory.

He announced plans to build a naval base in Tierra del Fuego and send a bill to Congress to reinforce Argentina’s sovereignty claim. He also said sanctions would be tightened against foreign companies operating in the islands.
