WhatsApp allows users to download a detailed report of their account information

In an effort to enhance digital privacy, WhatsApp has introduced a feature enabling users to download a comprehensive report detailing their account information. This tool allows individuals to understand precisely what data the messaging service retains about them.

The generated report compiles essential details such as the user's phone number, profile picture, contact list, and group memberships. It also provides insights into security and access logs, including linked devices, active sessions, IP addresses from the last connection, and operating system versions. The date the terms of service were accepted is also noted.

Crucially, the report does not contain any chat content, messages, or multimedia files, ensuring that private conversations remain inaccessible through this feature. Users can request the report through the app's settings under 'Account' and 'Request account info.'

The generation process can take up to three days, after which WhatsApp will notify the user to download the report. Currently, this functionality is available only on the mobile application and not on WhatsApp Web or desktop versions. The downloaded file, a ZIP archive, contains information in HTML and JSON formats, which users can then review and manage as they see fit.
