White House Envoys Agree to Meet Zelenskyy and European Partners Again

Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff left Kyiv without a breakthrough, but agreed to meet again with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European partners involved in the negotiations to end the Russia-Ukraine war.

The White House envoys completed their first visit to the Ukrainian capital on Sunday afternoon. They announced no narrowing of the positions held by Ukraine and Russia, and no concrete agreement to advance the peace process.

Kushner and Witkoff arrived in Kyiv by train on Sunday morning. The trip followed talks in Moscow the previous day with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other Kremlin negotiators.

At a news conference after the Kyiv meetings, Witkoff recalled that the Moscow visit had been his eighth and Kushner’s third. In Kyiv, they met Zelenskyy and national security advisers from Germany, France and the United Kingdom, which support Kyiv in the process.

The US negotiators had not previously traveled to Kyiv. The city must be reached by road or rail, unlike Moscow, where they had held their earlier meetings.
