Who Were Croatia’s Fearless Women? Discover Them in Tatjana Barat and Yellow Yuri’s Book

Fifty-five notable Croatian women take center stage in “Fearless Croatian Women,” a new book by writer Tatjana Barat and illustrator Yellow Yuri. The women featured made their mark in science, art, medicine, sport, journalism, humanitarian work and other areas.

The book includes some of the best-known names in Croatia’s cultural and social history: Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić, Milka Trnina, Slava Raškaj, Dora Pejačević, Marija Jurić Zagorka, Vesna Parun and Helga Vlahović.

Barat, Yellow Yuri and editor Ivana Žderić will discuss the book at noon on September 14 in the foyer of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. Book blogger Ana Jembrek will moderate the event, which forms part of the accompanying program of the fourth International Zagreb Opera Festival.

Through brief biographical stories, the book presents women who followed their dreams despite the obstacles and social restrictions of their time. Their lives and careers are defined by courage, curiosity, creativity and dedicated work. The publication presents their achievements as an inspiration for new generations and encourages young readers to explore, learn and build confidence.
