Why there is blackout in Enugu - Electricity company

A power outage is affecting several parts of Enugu State following an explosion at an electricity injection substation. The MainPower Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC), a subsidiary of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), announced that the explosion occurred at its substation in the Gariki Area on Friday night.

The incident, which happened around 7:30 p.m., affected an indoor 11kV breaker at the injection substation. Areas experiencing the outage include Gariki Market, Mayor Market, Roban Stores (Agbani Road), Crunchies (Agbani Road), Mobile Police Barrack, Amechi Road, and Upper Mount. Power supply has also been cut off in locations such as Ikiriki, Emeka Ebila, Ozalla Street, Egbonnaji, Nnaji Ogbodo, Idaw River, Igbariam Street, Liberation, Mount, Umuchu, Achina, Vance, Unubi, Enugu Agidi, Amawbia, Amokwe, Kenneth, Amah, and Hill Crest.

MEDC spokesperson Emeka Ezeh expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to customers and appealed for patience. He assured the public that the company's technical team is conducting a comprehensive assessment of the damage and has begun restoration efforts. The company aims to restore power supply to the affected areas as quickly as possible.
