Wife and daughter of former MLB player Alfonzo found dead after hotel collapse

The devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 have claimed the lives of Patricia, the wife of former Major League Baseball player Eliézer Alfonzo, and their 16-year-old daughter, Eliana. The two had been missing since the Eduard's Hotel in Macuto, where they were staying, collapsed following the seismic activity.

Eliézer Alfonzo, who managed the Delfines de La Guaira team, had held onto hope for their survival, fueled by the discovery of his wife's phone and his daughter's pet. He spoke to journalists in La Guaira, confirming the bodies found were indeed his wife and daughter. "It has been something difficult," Alfonzo said on Friday, as he coordinated the arrival of heavy machinery for the search efforts.

Adding to the family's grief, Alfonzo's sister and stepmother were also found dead in La Guaira. The hotel collapse occurred due to the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that impacted La Guaira, Caracas, and other central regions of the country.
