Wike Mocks Bode George, Claims He Lacks Electoral Value in Lagos

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has launched a sharp attack on Chief Bode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Wike declared he has no regrets about preventing George from assuming the party's national chairmanship, labeling him a "failed politician" who has consistently failed to deliver electoral victories for the PDP in Lagos State since 1999.

Wike's criticism, conveyed through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, suggested that George's political frustration is exacerbated by the emergence of Deji Doherty in charge of the party in Lagos. "His anger is because we didn’t allow him to be PDP National Chairman and we have no regret doing so," Wike stated, emphasizing that the position was rightfully due to the South-South region.

George wanted to be PDP National Chairman and was carrying on like the position was his birthright. We stopped him because it was the South-South’s turn. Since then, he has not stopped being angry.

The FCT minister recounted a past incident where he, as a sitting governor, visited George's residence in Abuja to appease him after a national convention, only to be nearly denied entry until former Ondo State governor Olusegun Mimiko intervened. Wike characterized George as a politician who, despite significant privileges, has failed to deliver for the PDP in Lagos.

We have managed him even though we know that he has no value. But as it is, since he wants to keep dancing naked in the marketplace of politics, we can’t but allow him.

Challenging George's political standing, Wike asserted that party leadership is determined by the ability to win elections, not by title or status. He provided specific electoral figures, claiming George has never won his own polling unit for the PDP. Wike cited the 2019 presidential election results at George's former polling unit, where the APC received 84 votes to the PDP's 40, and the 2023 election where the PDP garnered only four votes after George transferred his voter's card.
