Wike mourns Dan Orbih, saying he lost a true friend and political ally

Nyesom Wike said he had lost more than a political associate with the death of Daniel Osi Orbih. The Federal Capital Territory minister described Orbih as “a friend indeed” and mourned what he called the fall of one of Edo State’s biggest political figures.

Orbih, the Peoples Democratic Party’s national vice chairman for the South South region, died on Monday, Aug. 31, 2026. Wike said the death was painful and that Orbih would be missed by all.

“I have lost a friend and a committed political ally,” Wike said in a statement released through his senior special assistant on public communications and social media, Lere Olayinka. He described Orbih as everything one could want in a friend and political associate.

Wike offered condolences to Orbih’s family on behalf of himself, his family and his political associates. Orbih is survived by his wife, Florence Orbih, his children Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Mildred Omonemi Orbih, as well as his siblings and other extended family members.
