Wike’s loyalist, Ejekwu, emerges Rivers PDP governorship candidate

Sam Ejekwu, a close associate of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has been declared the consensus candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State for the 2027 governorship election.

Ejekwu, who previously served as the state's Commissioner for Transport and twice as Caretaker Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, secured the party's nomination through affirmation votes from the state's local government areas. The electoral committee, headed by Tajudeen Yusuf, confirmed his candidacy.

The PDP spokesman for Rivers State, Dr. Kenneth Yowika, affirmed that Ejekwu was the sole candidate in the process, describing it as smooth and transparent. Ejekwu expressed confidence in the PDP's strength in Rivers State, citing the significant turnout of supporters and the party's readiness for victory.

Ejekwu's selection as the PDP candidate, coupled with Kingsley Chinda's emergence in the All Progressives Congress (APC), indicates a strategic consolidation of Wike's political influence across the two major parties in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
