Wike: Tinubu Is Our Brother, and Rivers Will Back His Re-election

Nyesom Wike has declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu “our brother” and said Rivers State will support his bid for a second term in 2027.

The Federal Capital Territory minister made the statement at a reception organized in his honor by the Rainbow Coalition in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State. He recalled the support he received from the community during his 2015 governorship campaign, when it backed him despite the incumbent governor’s local ties.

Wike said political brotherhood should not depend on blood. In his definition, it belongs to whoever identifies with the people, cares about their welfare and supports their survival. He said Tinubu had shown that kind of relationship through appointments and decisions he believed benefited Rivers State.

I was astonished to see the mammoth support from Ikwerre. To God be the glory, I won Ikwerre in that election of 2015. It was not easy, but you all stood firm and supported me.

He pointed to the appointment of Okechukwu Onuchukwu as vice-chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt and the establishment of the University of Environment and Technology in Ogoni. “Tinubu came and gave us the Vice-Chancellor of UNIPORT. This means Tinubu is our brother. Tinubu came and gave us Vice-Chancellor, University of Environment, Ogoni. This means Tinubu is our brother,” Wike said.

Wike also argued that Rivers had received more federal representation under Tinubu than under previous administrations since 1999. He said the Rainbow Coalition and his supporters would mobilize political backing for Tinubu in 2027.
