Wildfire in Serbia's Deliblatska Peščara reignites, spreads towards Šušara

A wildfire in Serbia's Deliblatska Peščara, a protected nature reserve, has flared up again and is advancing towards the village of Šušara. The fire had temporarily subsided earlier in the day but reignited, posing a renewed threat to the area.

In addition to the spreading flames, a section of the Čardak sports and recreation center, located near the village of Deliblato within the Peščara, has been consumed by the fire. The impact on this facility is significant, adding to the damage caused by the blaze.

Local communities are mobilizing to support the firefighters battling the intense flames. Residents from surrounding villages are organizing efforts to deliver water and food to the emergency crews. Ash from the fire has reportedly spread to nearby towns, including Kovin, settling on yards and cars.

Meanwhile, firefighters are also contending with a separate fire in the Ibar Gorge, where strong winds are hampering containment efforts. A Russian "Kamov" helicopter has been deployed to assist in battling this blaze. Firefighting units from across Serbia, volunteer fire departments, workers from "Srbijašume" (Serbian Forests), members of the Mountain Rescue Service, and local residents are all involved in the extensive efforts to control the fires.
