Windstorm kills two children sheltering under trees in Bauchi

Tragedy struck Bashe Village in Bauchi State, Nigeria, when a violent windstorm uprooted a tree, killing two young children and injuring two others. The incident occurred as the children sought shelter from heavy rainfall.

According to the Bauchi State Police Command, five children were under a tree to escape the downpour when the storm hit. The tree was uprooted and fell on them. Two of the victims, eight-year-old Amina Maharazu and eight-year-old Asiya Tasiu, were pronounced dead at the local health center. Three other children, Samaila Tasiu, Sulaiman M. Rabiu, and Yusuf M. Salmanu, were also affected.

Samaila Tasiu escaped unharmed, while Sulaiman M. Rabiu and Yusuf M. Salmanu are receiving treatment and are reported to be responding well. Police mobilized to the scene immediately after receiving a report from the Bashe Police Outstation and transported the injured children for medical attention.

In response to the tragedy, the police have issued a stern warning to residents, particularly parents and guardians, advising them against taking shelter under trees during heavy rains and storms. The command emphasized the dangers and urged for greater awareness to prevent similar incidents. An investigation into the event is currently underway.
