Winnipeg Sea Bears Player Allegedly Assaulted by Nightclub Security

A somber mood has fallen over the Winnipeg Sea Bears as the Canadian Elite Basketball League team alleges one of its players was assaulted by security at a downtown nightclub. Guard Teddy Allen was reportedly injured during an incident at the Palomino Night Club on Sunday night.

The Sea Bears stated in a news release that evidence suggests Allen was the victim of an assault by club security. Despite being released from the hospital, the team indicated that Allen is suffering from "significant" injuries. "What we’ve seen and heard to date leads us to believe that Teddy was the victim of an assault at the hands of security at a downtown nightclub," the team wrote. "He will require further diagnosis, follow up care and potentially surgery, which means he will not be available for our playoff game this coming Thursday."

The Winnipeg Police Service confirmed it is investigating the incident but offered no further details. The Sea Bears are cooperating with the police investigation. Global News reported that the Palomino Night Club did not respond to a request for comment. Allen, originally from Phoenix, Arizona, joined the Sea Bears in 2022 after graduating from New Mexico State University.

Sea Bears coach Mike Raimbault spoke to the media, describing the day as a "heavy heart day" for the team. "We’re thinking about Teddy as a human and as a person and as a friend and as a teammate," Raimbault said. "So, I mean obviously, those things are there. Today was a workday, but also a heavy heart day. The guys are obviously thinking about him as well." Raimbault declined to comment on the video of the incident or provide further details on Allen's injuries, stating the team's focus is on preparing for Thursday's playoff game against the Saskatoon Mamba.
