Witkoff and Kushner arrive in Moscow seeking to revive Ukraine peace talks

Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Moscow with the difficult task of reviving a deal to end Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, after months of peace efforts produced little progress.

The two US envoys were met at the airport on Saturday by Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian presidential envoy who has acted as a key interlocutor in the Trump administration’s efforts to end the war. They were expected to meet President Vladimir Putin later that day, according to Axios.

Both sides said they would halt airstrikes during the visit. The envoys were then expected to travel to Kyiv, according to the description of their mission.

The visit followed President Donald Trump’s suggestion on Friday that he had a new proposal for ending the war. He gave no details of the plan. Trump made ending the conflict a priority early in his second term, but the effort has so far yielded little.
