Witkoff and Kushner to Visit Moscow and Kyiv With Proposal to End Ukraine War

President Donald Trump is sending Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv with what he called an idea for peace, even as Russia and Ukraine continue pounding each other with long-range missiles and drones.

Trump told reporters on Friday that he had dispatched the two envoys to see whether they could reach an agreement. “We have an idea for peace,” he said, describing Witkoff and Kushner as “two great negotiators” who had done a great job. He added that there might be a good chance of getting something done.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was preparing for Witkoff and Kushner’s visit on Sunday. He also pledged not to strike Russia while the envoys were in the country. “Our goal is to make the visit and the talks with the U.S. side as constructive and substantive as possible. We need to look for real options for how to move this war toward an end,” Zelenskyy said.

The trip will be the first time Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Kushner visit Ukraine since Trump returned to office promising to resolve the conflict. The pair met Russian President Vladimir Putin for five hours in December 2025. A Russian official called those talks constructive, but they produced no breakthrough.

The renewed diplomatic effort follows a period in which peace efforts appeared to stall after the United States attacked Iran in February, triggering a war that has lasted more than six months. Just hours before Trump’s announcement, Zelenskyy said a Russian drone struck the headquarters of Ukraine’s Security Service in central Kyiv. He said the attack targeted the agency’s acting chief and marked the first strike on the headquarters since the invasion began.
