Spain took the lead in the 30th minute through Fabián Ruiz, who scored on a rebound after Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois initially saved Dani Olmo's shot. However, Belgium equalized before halftime with a header from Charles De Ketelaere, ending Spain's impressive 649-minute streak without conceding a goal in the tournament.

The second half saw Spain largely control possession but struggle to create clear chances against a resolute Belgian defense. The game's complexion shifted when Courtois was forced off the field in the second half due to a thigh injury. His replacement, Senne Lammens, was unable to prevent Merino from scoring the winning goal in the 88th minute, following up on a rebound from Pau Cubarsí's long-range effort.

Spain will now face France in the semifinals.
