Wolfsburg no longer counts on the fiery player, but interest is not lacking: Here's who wants Majer

Croatian midfielder Lovro Majer is experiencing a challenging season, marked by both team and individual struggles. His club, Wolfsburg, has been relegated from the Bundesliga after losing a playoff match, meaning they will play in the second division next season. Majer has been largely excluded from the team, with coach Dieter Hecking having written him off, resulting in only 130 minutes of playing time since March, primarily as a substitute.

With the club facing a significant budget reduction due to relegation, player departures, especially those with the highest salaries, are expected. Majer, despite his poor season, is anticipated to be a sought-after player in the European market this summer. Wolfsburg's desire to sell an underperforming, high-earning player makes him more attractive to other clubs.

According to reports, Dutch club Ajax and German side Leipzig have expressed interest in Majer. Both clubs are known for developing and selling young talent, but they also require experienced players. Majer, at 28, is considered to be in his prime playing years and brings experience from the French and German leagues, as well as participation in the Champions League and Europa League.

Majer's poor form has also led to him losing his place in the Croatian national team squad. His primary goal is to return to the national team as soon as possible. Even if he were to become a regular starter at Wolfsburg, which is unlikely, achieving this goal while playing in the second division would be difficult. Therefore, a move away from Wolfsburg this summer appears to be Majer's preference, and all indications point towards a transfer.
