Woman becomes mother for first time at 62 in Argentina, setting a record

In a remarkable display of perseverance and modern medicine, Mabel, a 62-year-old woman from San Nicolás, Buenos Aires province, has become a mother for the first time. She gave birth to a healthy baby boy, David, via Cesarean section at Hospital San Felipe.

Everything was very beautiful. I am 62 years old, it is my first child, it was through in vitro fertilization. It was a perfect pregnancy, she was born by C-section… He is precious.

Mabel underwent a successful in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment, a process involving the fertilization of eggs and sperm in a laboratory followed by the implantation of the embryo. The baby weighed 2.750 kilograms and is reported to be in perfect condition. Mabel expressed her joy, describing the pregnancy as "perfect" and her son as "precious."

I decided to have a child now because I went through menopause many years ago, but I always had the desire to be a mother. I didn't give up. I am a woman of great faith. I prayed, I put my best energy and I felt in my heart that I was going to be a mother. Until one day I made the decision and dared.

Her pregnancy was considered rare due to her age, as women typically experience menopause much earlier. Mabel's journey involved using donor eggs, as she no longer had her own eggs available. She emphasized her strong faith and unwavering desire to be a mother, stating, "I didn't give up. I am a woman of great faith."

There was never any obstacle due to my age. The fertility treatment was carried out, in which, obviously, since I don't have eggs at my age, everything was through egg donation. Everything went perfectly: the treatment, the embryo formed, I had a beautiful pregnancy and David arrived. I am very happy. I always wanted to be a mother.

Dr. Romina Ruffini, the obstetrician who managed Mabel's case, confirmed that the pregnancy proceeded without complications. Mabel's health and a healthy uterus were crucial factors in the successful outcome.
