Woman caused Moscow cafe explosion with homemade device; three dead

At least three people died and 21 were injured in an explosion at a Moscow cafe on Saturday, according to Russian news agencies. The National Anti-Terrorism Committee reported that the blast was caused by a homemade explosive device carried by a woman who was attempting to enter the establishment. The explosion occurred in a restaurant located in Kudrinskaya Square, a central area of the Russian capital. Officials identified the three victims as a cafe patron, the woman carrying the explosive, and a security guard who reportedly denied her entry. Images shared on Russian Telegram channels showed a significant mobilization of emergency services, including fire trucks, ambulances, and law enforcement, in the area surrounding the explosion site. Authorities have not yet confirmed if the incident was a terrorist act or identified any potential perpetrators. Russia has experienced numerous bomb attacks and assassinations in recent years. Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, Ukrainian intelligence services have been implicated in or claimed responsibility for several attacks targeting Russian military personnel and prominent Kremlin supporters.
