Woman Detained for Allegedly Harassing, Threatening Mother in Chiriquí

A 20-year-old woman in Remedios, Chiriquí, has been placed in provisional detention after being charged with domestic violence, specifically harassment, against her 40-year-old mother. The measure was imposed during a hearing where prosecutors presented evidence linking the suspect to the alleged acts.

According to the investigation, the alleged acts of violence occurred on more than five occasions. The most recent incident reportedly took place on August 21, 2026, around 4:50 p.m. at the victim's residence in the El Puerto district. Prosecutors claim the accused repeatedly insulted, humiliated, and threw blunt objects, such as stones and glass bottles, at her mother.

Furthermore, the young woman is accused of making death threats and intimidating her mother with bladed weapons, specifically machetes. These actions allegedly instilled fear in the victim.

During the hearing, municipal prosecutors presented evidence that they believe connects the accused to the reported incidents. This evidence was used to support the request for the most severe precautionary measure. The woman will remain in provisional detention while the investigation and subsequent judicial process continue.
