Woman Fined Heavily for Evading Police on Unregistered Motorcycle During Kaohsiung Drill; Medical Evaluation Follows

During a civil defense drill in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, a woman on an unregistered motorcycle, without a helmet, sped through the streets, ignoring police signals to stop.

The incident occurred around 10 AM in the Fengshan District amidst a "city resilience drill" that had imposed traffic controls. Police officers spotted the woman riding a "ghost motorcycle" – one without license plates – and without a helmet. When signaled to pull over, she accelerated and attempted to evade the officers.

A short pursuit ensued, concluding when police successfully intercepted her at the intersection of Caogong Road and Xinyi Street. A subsequent check revealed she was not only riding an unregistered vehicle but also driving without a license. Police prepared to issue four separate fines for offenses including not wearing a helmet, driving without a license, operating an unregistered vehicle, and evading police, potentially totaling up to NT$102,500 (approximately $3,200 USD). The motorcycle was confiscated on the spot.

Officers noted the woman appeared to be in an extremely unstable mental state, exhibiting hysterical behavior. Considering the ongoing drill, the hot weather, and her safety, police contacted relevant professionals. After an assessment, medical personnel and police assisted in transporting the woman to a hospital for appropriate care, de-escalating the situation.
