Woman Hospitalized in Czech Republic with Suspected Dangerous Infection After Uganda Trip

A woman returning to the Czech Republic from Uganda has been hospitalized with symptoms raising suspicion of a highly dangerous infectious disease, including hemorrhagic fever. The patient was transported in a specialized biobox from the Hradec Králové Faculty Hospital to the infectious diseases clinic at Prague's Bulovka Faculty Hospital.

The Czech Ministry of Health has reassured the public, stating that the probability of confirmed infection is low and poses no risk. The patient, who was on a tourist trip in Uganda, visited areas approximately 700 kilometers from the epicenter of an infectious disease outbreak. She spent most of her time in national parks and did not come into contact with locals during her organized tour.

She developed a fever and contacted medical personnel by phone before visiting a health facility, informing them of her symptoms and travel history. This allowed healthcare professionals to take necessary precautions to prevent any potential risk to staff and the public.

Some of the patient's samples will be sent to the Koch Institute in Berlin for examination, with results anticipated by Sunday morning. Highly dangerous infections, such as Ebola and various hemorrhagic fevers, share similar symptoms, which can complicate diagnosis. The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned against travel to border areas of Uganda with the Democratic Republic of Congo due to reported cases of Ebola.
