Woman injured in Beervelde crash; driver was intoxicated and had driving ban

A 36-year-old woman sustained injuries in a rear-end collision that occurred Friday evening around 8:00 PM in the Rivierstraat in Beervelde, a sub-municipality of Lochristi. The driver of the vehicle that struck her car was reportedly driving at high speed and was found to be intoxicated, according to the East Flanders prosecutor's office.

The victim was trapped in her vehicle and required extrication by the fire department. She was transported to the hospital with injuries, but her condition is not life-threatening. The 50-year-old driver of the other vehicle failed a breathalyzer test following the incident.

Adding to the severity of the situation, the driver was already subject to a driving ban and had previously been declared unfit to drive. The prosecutor's office confirmed that he will be presented to an investigating judge.

The accident occurred on a Friday evening, highlighting the dangers of impaired and reckless driving. The Rivierstraat in Beervelde was the scene of the collision, which has led to legal proceedings against the 50-year-old driver.
