Woman ordered into provisional detention for homicide and robbery in Punta Pacífica

A woman in Panama faces provisional detention after being formally charged with aggravated homicide and aggravated robbery. The charges stem from the death of an 84-year-old American citizen, who was discovered deceased in his apartment in the upscale Punta Pacífica neighborhood.

During a multi-request hearing, the Homicide and Femicide Section of the Metropolitan Prosecutor's Office successfully legalized the woman's arrest and formally charged her as the perpetrator. The Public Ministry requested provisional detention, citing strong evidence linking the accused to the crime and the severe nature of the alleged offenses.

Prosecutors also highlighted procedural risks, including the possibility of the accused fleeing or abandoning the legal process, as well as the danger of her tampering with evidence, particularly witness testimonies. The potential risk to the community was also a factor in the decision, given the gravity of the alleged crime and the multiple charges filed against her.

The incident occurred on August 24, 2026. The victim was found with a stab wound to the neck, and investigators determined that a significant amount of money was missing from his residence. The investigation remains active as authorities work to gather further evidence and establish all responsibilities.
