Woman, two daughters found dead in Karnataka; suicide-murder suspected

Tragedy struck in Karnataka's Tumakuru district on Thursday when a woman and her two young daughters were found dead in their residence. Police are investigating the incident as a suspected suicide-murder, with preliminary findings suggesting the mother may have poisoned her children before ending her own life.

The deceased have been identified as Rabia and her daughters, aged five and 10. A police team responded to the scene after being alerted and had to force entry into the house. Inside, they found Rabia and the two girls unconscious, exhibiting signs such as froth in their mouths.

According to Tumakuru Superintendent of Police Ashok K V, family members, forensic teams, and a dog squad were called to the scene. While the exact cause of death is yet to be determined pending postmortem examinations, police have registered a case against Rabia's husband, Srikanth. A complaint from Rabia's mother alleges that Srikanth had been harassing her after their recent marriage.

Srikanth, a native of Tumakuru with a criminal record including land-grabbing cases, has been booked under sections related to abetment of suicide and murder. Investigators are exploring all angles, including the alleged harassment, to understand the circumstances leading to the deaths. No suicide note has been recovered thus far.

Prima facie, it is not yet clear how the deaths occurred. We received a complaint from the mother of the deceased stating that Rabia had recently married a person named Srikanth and used to complain that he was harassing her.
