Woman walking on sidewalk falls into sewer, manhole cover closes on her

A 31-year-old woman in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, experienced a terrifying ordeal when she fell into an open sewer while walking on a sidewalk. The incident, captured on security camera, occurred on a Sunday morning.

Video footage shows the woman engrossed in a phone conversation as she walked. She stepped directly onto a manhole cover, which unexpectedly gave way, plunging her into the sewer below. The manhole cover then fell back into place on top of her.

Fortunately, a motorcyclist who was in the vicinity quickly came to her aid. The woman sustained minor injuries and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Further security footage revealed that the manhole cover had been opened hours before the accident by a masked individual. It is believed that the cover was not properly secured, leading to the dangerous situation. Local media reports suggest the suspect may have been attempting to steal the manhole cover before abandoning the effort, which ultimately resulted in the woman's fall.
