Women’s top seed reaches CBN tennis q’finals

Women's top seed Mohammed Khadijat has proven her rating at the 47th Central Bank of Nigeria Senior Tennis Championship, securing a commanding 6-1, 6-0 victory over wild card entrant Agunbiade Toluwalose to reach the quarter-finals.

Khadijat is set to face Godwin Favour in the next round. Other players advancing to the last eight include Udofia Mary, who defeated Otu Blessing 6-1, 6-2, and Ogunjobi Success, who beat Samuel Gloria 6-0, 6-3. Ogunjobi will now play Udofia in a quarter-final match.

In other women's singles matches, Omotayo Blessing overcame Bamidele Abosede 6-2, 6-2 and will compete against second seed Emmanuel-Essien Bright for a semi-final spot. Bassey Etoro will face Suwa Nenrot, who secured a swift 6-1, 6-0 victory over Olaniyan Abosede.

The men's singles also saw top seed Abua Canice defeat Sani Musa 6-4, 6-3, earning him a quarter-final clash with Mohammed Dahiru, who beat Chinedu Sunday 6-1, 6-2. Michael Chima, a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Sani Yahaya, is scheduled to play wild card entrant Edward David. The men's second seed was also in action, having previously won his match 6-1, 6-1.
