Worker Sentenced to Eight Years for Stealing Four Cattle in Veraguas

A man has been sentenced to 96 months in prison, equivalent to eight years, for livestock theft in Veraguas, Panama. The Regional Prosecutor's Office successfully demonstrated his guilt during an oral trial, leading the Trial Court to issue the conviction. In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a supplementary penalty of 24 months of disqualification from holding public office upon completion of the main sentence.

The prosecution presented a range of evidence, including witness testimonies, expert reports, and documentary and material proof, to establish both the commission of the crime and the accused's involvement. The investigation centered on an incident that took place on February 16, 2024, in the Dos Bocas community, within the Guarumal district of Soná, Veraguas province.

Authorities reported that the convicted individual worked as a caretaker on a farm. He unlawfully took possession of four head of Brahman cattle, each valued at B/.850, resulting in an economic loss of approximately B/.3,400 for the farm owner. The Attorney General's Office affirmed its commitment to pursuing criminal actions in relevant cases, in accordance with constitutional and legal provisions.
