Workers’ quarters and scrap warehouse destroyed by fire in Denpasar

A fire tore through workers’ quarters and a scrap warehouse on Jalan Nakula in Denpasar, Bali, at about 10:30 p.m. Monday, police said.

The fire spread through buildings containing scrap materials, with used goods piled on the roofs. Andre, one of the victims whose home burned, said he saw the flames consuming his house when he returned from work.

Witness Candra Setiawan, who lives east of the site, was the first to see the fire. He went to the location and tried to find his parents, who lived in one of the workers’ quarters. They answered his call and said they had been away buying food when the fire occurred.

Fire trucks were recorded heading to the scene, while videos showing the flames circulated on social media. Police said the cause was still being investigated by officers from West Denpasar and the Denpasar police.
