World Bank names new Caribbean director

The World Bank has named Achim Fock as its new division director for the Caribbean. In this capacity, Fock will spearhead the bank's strategic engagement and oversee its operational portfolio throughout Caribbean nations.

His responsibilities will include managing lending, analytical and advisory work, and trust funds dedicated to fostering sustainable and resilient development across the region. The appointment aims to advance the bank's commitment to supporting the Caribbean's unique development challenges.

Fock brings a wealth of experience to the role, with more than 25 years at the World Bank. Most recently, he served as Country Manager for Zambia, where he managed the portfolio and client relations. Prior to that, he held positions as operations manager for Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand, and also for Vietnam.

His extensive background also includes managing the Development Effectiveness Unit for South Asia and serving as a senior economist in various countries across Africa, East Asia, and Eastern Europe. Fock holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics, along with master's degrees in Agricultural Science and Agricultural Economics, and a postgraduate diploma in European Integration and International Economics.
