Ghana's national football team coach, Carlos Queiroz, described facing a formidable opponent like England in the World Cup as the "easiest type of match" for his players. The Portuguese manager believes that when competing against top-tier teams such as England, France, or Germany, players are naturally highly motivated, requiring little additional instruction. "This is the type of match the easiest, because when you are about to play against England, France or Germany, you don't need to tell them anything to the players. They are totally motivated," Queiroz stated. He emphasized the need to "moderate the enthusiasm" and, most importantly, to "work together" and "fight together" for the full 90 minutes. Queiroz, 73, is participating in his fifth World Cup and his first managing Ghana, having taken the helm in April. His previous World Cup experience includes leading Iran in the last three tournaments, where his team suffered a 6-2 defeat against England in the Qatar 2022 group stage. He downplayed the past result, noting that "in football, four years is like a century" and that he learned "a couple of lessons" from that match. Ghana began its North American campaign with a 1-0 victory over Panama. A win against England in Boston on Tuesday would secure Ghana's place in the knockout stage for the first time since 2010. England, meanwhile, has had a strong start to the tournament with a 4-2 win over Croatia, though they have shown defensive vulnerabilities. The English team is undefeated in eight previous World Cup matches against African opponents.
