World Cup 2026: Panama Coach Thomas Christiansen Sets June 30 for Future Discussions

Panama's national football team is preparing to conclude their 2026 World Cup campaign with a match against England. This game could mark the final appearance for head coach Thomas Christiansen at the helm of the Panamanian squad.

When questioned about his future following the England match, Christiansen stated, "On June 30, we will go to Panama, and then we will talk." The Danish-Spanish coach has been leading the Panamanian team since 2020, nearing his sixth anniversary in the role.

Christiansen suggested that some adjustments to the lineup might be made for the England game, noting that players may be fatigued after the previous matches. "All are ready and prepared to play," he assured.

He identified England as the most formidable opponent in Group L. "I believe it is the strongest team in the group," Christiansen said. "The objective is to compete as we did against Ghana and Croatia. One of England's strengths is set pieces... we must be prepared for that."

This encounter will be the second World Cup meeting between Panama and England, with England winning the previous match 6-1 in Russia 2018. Christiansen expressed confidence in his team's evolution since then, stating, "We have played good games against Ghana and Croatia, but I think the team has the ability to demonstrate it against England." He reiterated that the team's goal is to finish the tournament on a high note and "make history," despite not having secured any points so far, highlighting that they have "left a good global image."
