World Cup Attracted 7.8 Million Travelers to Mexico: Tourism Secretary

Mexico's hosting of the World Cup drew a significant influx of 7.8 million travelers to its host cities, encompassing both international tourists and domestic day-trippers. The event, which ran from June 8 to July 19, has been hailed as a major success by the Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora.

The economic impact of the World Cup was substantial, with an estimated total economic spillover of 65 billion pesos. Of this, tourism alone accounted for 42.276 billion pesos. The event also proved to be a significant job creator, generating approximately 130,900 employment opportunities across the three host cities: Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara.

Rodríguez Zamora emphasized the broader cultural impact, stating, "For a few weeks, the world's eyes were on Mexico, but most importantly, millions of people were able to experience the heart of our country. They left talking about our flavors, traditions, our landscapes, but above all, about the hospitality of Mexicans. That is the most valuable legacy the World Cup leaves and the best tourism promotion."

Hotel occupancy rates averaged 66%, a 13-point increase compared to the same period in 2025. During match days, occupancy surged to between 85% and 90%. The host city airports collectively managed 6.4 million passengers, with 4.2 million being domestic and 2.2 million international travelers. Notably, the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) saw an 18% increase in international passenger flow.
