World Cup sensation Vozinha to join Chilean club Colo Colo

Goalkeeper Josimar Dias, widely known as Vozinha, the breakout star for Cape Verde at the 2026 World Cup, is set to join Chilean club Colo Colo for the upcoming season. The transfer was officially announced by Aníbal Mosa, the president of Colo Colo.

Mosa stated that Vozinha possesses the necessary qualities for the team and acknowledged that the signing also carries marketing advantages. The club further amplified the news on its social media, posting a welcome message in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, accompanied by an enigmatic photo of the player's hair with the word "Aura."

Vozinha captured global attention on June 15 with a stellar performance in Cape Verde's historic goalless draw against Spain, the reigning European and world champions. This marked Cape Verde's first-ever World Cup match. The team's World Cup journey continued with draws against Uruguay and Saudi Arabia before being eliminated in the Round of 16.

The 40-year-old goalkeeper began his professional career at 25 in Angola and has since played for clubs in Moldova, Cyprus, Slovakia, and Portugal. His most recent club was Chaves in the Portuguese second division. Vozinha joined his national team in 2012, overcoming thoughts of retirement for the dream of reaching the World Cup.

His nickname, "Vozinha," meaning "little grandmother" in Portuguese, originated from childhood bullying. He later adopted it to distinguish himself from another player named Josimar. The goalkeeper became a charismatic figure during the World Cup, with his Instagram following surging from 50,000 to 2.4 million after the match against Spain. Vozinha's move to Colo Colo makes him the second World Cup sensation to transfer clubs.
