An ambitious maritime project aims to redefine global living with the proposed Freedom Ship, envisioned as the world's largest floating city designed to permanently accommodate 80,000 residents. Spearheaded by the Florida-based U.S. corporation Freedom Cruise Line International, this colossal structure is planned as a continuous global circumnavigator, boasting comprehensive infrastructure for daily life, work, and leisure at sea.

The design, developed by Schopfer Associates, is unprecedented in scale: approximately 1.6 kilometers (one mile) in length, 243.84 meters (800 feet) wide, and standing 30 stories high. With an estimated gross tonnage exceeding two million tons, the vessel moves beyond temporary leisure, aiming to establish a long-term habitat where residents can maintain urban routines.

The onboard facilities are equally ambitious, including a 15,000-seat sports stadium, a hospital with a medical research center, educational facilities from primary to university levels, a two-story food market, museums, banks, casinos, shops, and a symphony hall. For internal transportation, the plan includes a tram system connecting different neighborhoods, complemented by extensive green spaces and parks. The ship is even slated to feature eight helipads for connectivity with land via ferries and aircraft.

Achieving this vision hinges on cutting-edge engineering. Preliminary estimates suggest propulsion systems would be hybrid, potentially incorporating nuclear power, alongside a strong focus on sustainability through integrated waste management and energy recovery processes. Due to its immense size, the ship would primarily operate in international waters, as its physical dimensions would prevent docking in traditional ports. Visitors would need to use ferries to access the floating metropolis.
