Wout van Aert wins shortened Vuelta stage in extreme heat

Wout van Aert won the Vuelta’s 15th stage after organizers shortened the Andalusian route to 110 kilometers because of extreme heat.

The Belgian, 31, prevailed in the sprint from a five-rider breakaway on the hilly stage from Palma del Río to Córdoba. The leading positions in the general classification remained unchanged before the final rest day.

Spain’s Enric Mas continued to lead overall. Felix Gall remained second, 2 minutes and 6 seconds behind Mas, while four-time Vuelta champion Primož Roglič was only four seconds behind Gall.
