X Introduces New Video Editing and Recording Features for iOS Users

X, formerly known as Twitter, is enhancing its video capabilities with the release of new editing and recording tools for its iOS application. The move is designed to boost original content creation on the platform and discourage the redistribution of videos from other sources.

Nikita Bier, X's product lead, announced the comprehensive update, which includes a revamped video editor and recorder. "One of our biggest priorities is to give creators the tools that allow them to generate original content and reward those creators," Bier stated, emphasizing X's commitment to fostering a unique content ecosystem.

Among the new features are multi-language automatic subtitle overlays, allowing users to add subtitles in various languages directly onto their videos. Users can customize the style, typography, and design of these subtitles. Additionally, a green screen feature has been introduced, enabling users to change their video backgrounds using images from their device or existing X posts. This facilitates the creation of reaction videos, memes, and news commentary directly within the X app.

Bier previously advised creators to focus on original videos, noting that X tends to reduce the visibility of content reposted from elsewhere. "We want completely new content on the application," he affirmed. The rollout of these tools is currently exclusive to iOS, as the Android version is undergoing a complete rebuild from the ground up.
